Valerie F. Leonard is the founder of Nonprofit Utopia, LLC, the ideal community for leaders who want to start, manage and scale nonprofits. She has more than 20 years’ experience starting, managing and growing nonprofits as a financial analyst for a major hospital medical system, a founding executive director of a neighborhood grant making organization and consultant.

Valerie is an adjunct instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she teaches courses in nonprofit management and co-facilitates grant writing workshops. She has also served as an adjunct instructor with Roosevelt University, teaching courses in social enterprise. Valerie is the host of the Nonprofit Utopia podcast and livestream shows, sharing nonprofit lessons learned and best practices.

Valerie is a John Maxwell Certified Leadership Team member, DISC Trainer and DISC Consultant, providing leadership training, coaching and DISC assessments. She has an undergraduate degree in economics from Spelman College and a master of management degree in finance and marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business.
